Premier Rodney MacDonald and Health Promotion and Protection Minister Barry Barnet announced a $2-million investment in the Kings Mutual Century Centre, nicknamed the "Apple Dome". The $9-million facility will replace the aging Berwick and District Arena.
The facility will accommodate an ice skating surface, curling rink, indoor walking track, fitness centre, library, banquet room, outdoor swimming pool, and become home to the Berwick Lion's Club.
Heading the project is the Berwick and District Community Association who has already raised $3 million toward the project since the first meeting of area residents six years ago to talk about the need for a new rink.
Last week, the premier announced $400,000 for the Hants Aquatic Centre, a $1.2 million outdoor pool in Windsor. So far, the province has committed only $1.3 million to the proposed recreation centre at mainland common.
